  2. ELECTRONIC CLIPPER USER'S GUIDE

  5. BASIC REQUIREMENTS
  6. ------------------

  8. Electronic Clipper images require application(s) that are compatible
  9. with TIFF and/or EPS file formats. The TIFF images are saved as TIFF
  10. (version 5.0) files in Adobe Photoshop. EPS images are saved as Adobe
  11. Illustrator 1.1 files. Any other hardware requirements will be based
  12. primarily on the applications you use and the type of final output
  13. you plan to produce. For best results, your printer should be 
  14. PostScript compatible.
  15.  
  16. All documentation assumes you have a basic understanding of how to 
  17. use your computer and the programs you have purchased for it.

  19. ART SELECTION
  20. -------------
  21. ** Printed Pictorial Index **
  22. This provides thumbnail and file name for each image in the issue.

  24. USING THE CLIP ART
  25. ------------------
  26. ** PAGE LAYOUT PROGRAMS **
  27. Open your page layout program, create a new document and place the 
  28. TIFF and EPS files as you would any other pictures. The following 
  29. page layout programs are compatible with both TIFF & EPS file 
  30. formats:
  31.  *PageMaker
  32.  *QuarkXpress
  33.  *Corel Publisher
  34.  
  35. ** DRAW PROGRAMS **
  36. Open your draw program, then Open or Import the EPS file. These 
  37. images can be manipulated like any other EPS image. The following 
  38. draw programs are compatible with the EPS file format:
  39.  *Adobe Illustrator
  40.  *FreeHand (TIFF files can be placed into a document)
  41.  *Corel Draw! (TIFF files can be imported into a document)
  42.  *Deneba Canvas
  43.  
  44. Many of your Electronic Clipper EPS images are provided as layered 
  45. illustrations. This means that several elements can be lifted out 
  46. of a single image and used as stand-alone artwork. In order to pull 
  47. apart or separate the layers of an EPS file, a PostScript draw 
  48. program is necessary.

  50. ** PAINT PROGRAMS **
  51. The TIFF files can be the following:
  52.  *300 dpi black-and-white images
  53.  *170 dpi grayscale images
  54.  *170 dpi and 300 dpi photos
  55.  *170 dpi and 300 dpi color images
  56. They can be manipulated like any other TIFF image in the 
  57. following programs:
  58.  *Adobe Photoshop (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
  59.  *Micrografx Picture Publisher (EPS images are converted to
  60.   bitmap images. Note: Must rename image with .ai extension)
  61.  *Corel Photo-Paint (EPS images are converted to bitmap images)
  62.  *Deneba Canvas
  63.

  65. manual for compatibility.
